Massage Therapy
What is therapeutic massage?
Massage is one of the oldest, simplest forms of therapy, it is a system of stroking, pressing and kneading different areas of the body to relieve pain, relax, stimulate, and tone the body. It is an intuitive collaboration between art and science evolved from our own natural instinct to rub a sight of pain. We can trace the history of massage through ancient China, Egypt and India, the wisdom from these cultural traditions is reflected in their respective development of this therapeutic form. Western massage was first found in Socrates Greece, it was later developed by Swedish doctor, poet and educator Per Henrik Ling. His techniques are integral to modern massage therapy, as his clinical work on soft tissue massage with athletes covered groundbreaking territory. He incorporated techniques from the ancient cultures to create a great part of the foundations we use today.

What does treatment involve?
The first treatment lasts for an hour and a half. It begins with a detailed consultation which will involve asking about general health, vitality, medical history and emotional wellbeing, in order to determine the individuals therapeutic requirements. After that you will be given privacy to undress and cover yourself with towels/sheets ensuring modesty is protected at all times. The first massage will usually be a full body treatment which may include massaging of the back, neck, legs, face, arms, hands, abdomen, and feet. All sessions can be adjusted to accommodate each client’s personal preference and comfort.
The practitioner uses a range of classical techniques from the system of Swedish massage, complemented by deep tissue and lymphatic drainage massage techniques. These cover a wide spectrum of healing requirements, from whole body reconditioning to deeper work on specific problematic areas. Massage therapy is designed to treat from a holistic approach which considers the whole person, not just the symptom or the disease, by assisting the bodies natural ability to regulate, maintain and heal itself.
Please be advised that if you are currently undergoing any medical treatments you may be asked to consult with your GP first. The clinics practitioner is happy to treat pregnant ladies from sixteen weeks onwards and children from the age of ten upwards, accompanied by an appropriate adult.
“We ought not to consider the organs of the body as lifeless forms of a mechanical mass, but as a living, active instrument of the soul.” - Per Henrik Ling
